Rwanda hosts the conference of African Military Academies Commandants
Rwanda is hosting the 19th Conference of Commandants of African Military Academies, an event that has brought together representatives from 23 countries.
The three-day conference, held for the first time in Rwanda, began on Monday, November 10, and will run until November 12, 2025, at Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali. It has attracted delegates from the African Union’s Peace and Security Department, military experts, security scholars, and defense partners from across the continent.
The participating countries include Cameroon, Egypt, Guinea, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Botswana, Burundi, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, the Central African Republic, Somalia, and Rwanda.
In his opening remarks, Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda, emphasized that the discussions during this conference should lead to tangible outcomes. He stated, “The future of military education in Africa depends on our collective commitment and shared goals, and we must work together to achieve them.”
He added that the conference provides a vital platform for joint efforts to address evolving security threats such as terrorism, cybercrime, and transnational organized crimes.
“Overcoming these challenges requires a highly skilled and technologically capable military workforce. This is essential in building a professional and modern army that meets the demands of the 21st century,” Minister Marizamunda said.
The conference is being held under the theme: “The Future of Military Education and Training in Africa: Bridging the Technological Gap.” The previous edition took place in Tripoli, Libya, in November 2024.
