President Paul Kagame begins two-day working visit to Guinea-conakry, launches major iron ore project
On Monday, November 11, 2025, President Paul Kagame began a two-day working visit to Guinea-Conakry.
During his visit, President Kagame and Guinea’s Mamadi Doumbouya are scheduled to launch a major project to mine iron ore under the Simandou Iron Ore Project.
The Simandou mines, located in southeastern Guinea, are known to contain some of the largest iron ore deposits in the world. Experts estimate that they hold between three and four billion tons of iron ore.
Once the mining project is fully operational by 2030, it is expected that the Simandou hills will produce up to 120 million tons of iron ore annually.
On November 12, President Kagame and Doumbouya will also officially inaugurate the African TAS (Transform Africa Summit), which will focus on accelerating Africa’s development.
Organized by the Smart Africa Alliance, the summit will bring together President Kagame and other participants to discuss the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in driving innovations that bring transformative changes to Africa and the world.
Leaders and innovators will discuss how AI can be leveraged to boost Africa’s economy, strengthen governance, and enhance innovation capacity.
